Chain Link and Vinyl Fencing

A fence that holds up in Utah

Utah weather is hard on fencing. Summer UV bakes vinyl. Winter freeze and heave push posts. We set every post deep, in proper footings, with cross-bracing where the ground demands it. The fence stays where we put it.

You have two strong choices in this region: galvanized or vinyl-coated chain link for budget and visibility, and vinyl for privacy and zero maintenance. We install both.

We work in Ogden, Layton, South Weber, Willard, and across Weber and Davis counties.

Chain link fencing

Best for budget, pets, and visibility

Chain link is the workhorse. Installed cost in Northern Utah runs $10 to $20 per linear foot for most yards, with taller or vinyl-coated runs going higher. A typical yard ends up between $3,200 and $4,500 installed. Galvanized lasts 15 to 20 years, vinyl-coated 20 to 25 years.

Heights and gauges

Most homes get 4-foot or 6-foot fabric in 11.5 or 9 gauge. We use schedule 40 posts in commercial-grade gates so they do not sag. Larger lots or livestock setups get top rail and tension wire on the bottom.

Vinyl fencing

Best for privacy, looks, and zero maintenance

Vinyl runs $25 to $45 per linear foot installed, roughly two to three times chain link. The trade-off is lifespan and upkeep. Quality UV-stabilized vinyl lasts 25 to 35 years or more with no painting, staining, or sealing. It does not rust, rot, or feed termites.

Styles we install

Solid 6-foot privacy. Semi-private with louvers. Three-rail ranch for pasture lots in Willard. Picket for front yards. We also install gates, automated openers, and post caps.

Per NAR remodeling research, outdoor improvements like fencing also help sell homes. Curb appeal is one of the cheapest ways to bump perceived value.

How we install

Locates first

Every job starts with a Blue Stakes call. We mark the property line, confirm the layout with you, and then dig. No surprises with utility lines.

Footings sized for Utah frost

Utah's frost line varies by city but generally sits at 30 inches. We set fence posts in concrete deep enough that winter freeze does not heave them. Gate posts get even deeper footings.

Cleanup and warranty

You get the property back clean. We stand behind our installs and come back for any post or panel that fails from workmanship.

Frequently asked questions

Vinyl or chain link, which should I get?

Chain link if you want the cheapest reliable fence, want to see through the yard, or have pets and large lots. Vinyl if you want privacy, no maintenance, and the best resale look. Many homes mix both: vinyl in front, chain link in back.

How long does a vinyl fence last in Utah?

Twenty-five to thirty-five years with quality UV-stabilized PVC and steel-reinforced rails. Utah sun is intense, so we install industrial-grade vinyl rated for high UV exposure.

Do I need a permit?

Most Utah cities require a permit for fences over six feet, and many require it for any fence in a front-yard setback. We confirm requirements with your city planning office before quoting.

How long does install take?

A standard chain link yard takes one to two days. Vinyl runs two to four days because concrete footings need cure time before we hang panels.

Can you fix or extend an existing fence?

Yes. We replace damaged panels, reset leaning posts, retension chain link, and tie new sections into existing runs.

What about HOA approval?

We will give you a written quote and material spec you can submit to your HOA. We have built fences that match common HOA color and height rules across Davis and Weber counties.
