Rock Decoration and Hardscapes

Stop watering grass you never use

Most Northern Utah front yards are park strips and side runs that drink water and give nothing back. Rock, mulch, and well-placed drought-tolerant plants turn those zones into something you can actually look at, with a fraction of the water and zero mowing.

Xeriscaping cuts outdoor water use 50% to 75%, according to the EPA. Utah residents replaced 3 million square feet of lawn in 2024 and saved over 100 million gallons of water through the Utah Water Savers rebate program.

We work in Ogden, Layton, South Weber, Willard, and the surrounding cities.

What we build

Rock beds and decorative cover

River rock, lava rock, crushed granite, cobble, and boulders sourced from Utah and Idaho quarries. We install proper landscape fabric underneath so weeds do not creep through, and we depth-grade to keep rock in place during heavy storms.

Concrete curbing

Continuous-pour concrete curbing keeps grass out of rock beds and rock out of lawn. It also gives the yard clean lines that lift the look of the whole property.

Paver patios and walkways

Concrete pavers, flagstone, and slabs. We base properly with compacted road base and bedding sand so freeze-thaw cycles do not heave joints. Paver patios return roughly 95% of cost at resale per the National Association of Realtors.

Full xeriscape conversions

Lawn out, drip in, mulch and rock down, native plants up. We design conversions that qualify for state rebates and look great year-round.

Localscapes design built for Utah

"Localscapes is an approach to landscaping that shows how to get landscapes that fit, rather than fight, our climate," says Cynthia Bee of the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. We design every conversion using the same five-zone framework. Central open space. Gathering areas. Activity zones. Paths. Planting beds tied to drip.

The result is a yard that looks intentional, holds up to Utah heat, and uses a fraction of the water your old lawn did.

Rebate-qualified conversions

The state pays $1 to $3 per square foot through Utah Water Savers when you swap grass for water-wise landscape, up to $50,000 per application. Weber Basin Water Conservancy District may stack additional rebates. We design every conversion to qualify and help with the paperwork.

Pair it with the rest of your yard

A rock yard works best when the irrigation matches it. We design drip zones inside every rock conversion so the plants you do keep get exactly what they need. See our sprinkler installation and retaining wall services if you have a sloped property that needs both.

Want to keep some lawn? We can run a clean transition from rock to a smaller, healthier turf area. See sod installation for details.

Frequently asked questions

Will my yard just look like rocks?

No. Modern xeriscape pairs rock with native perennials, ornamental grasses, and small trees for color through every season. We design layouts that feel full, not bare.

How much can I save with xeriscaping?

Fifty to seventy-five percent on outdoor water use. Most homeowners see the bill drop the first summer.

Will Utah pay me to remove my lawn?

Yes. Utah Water Savers offers $1 to $3 per square foot. Local conservancy districts may add more on top. We help you apply.

What does a paver patio cost?

Hardscape construction in Utah runs roughly $15 to $40 per square foot installed depending on material, base depth, and pattern.

Do you replace wood mulch?

Yes. Mulch in Utah breaks down in two to three years. Rock cover looks similar and never needs replacement, which is why most Utah conversions move to rock in the long run.

How long does a project take?

A simple rock bed and curbing job runs one to three days. Full front-yard xeriscape conversions with drip and planting can take one to two weeks.
